Morphable and Multifunctional Space Structures
Space structures capable of folding, deploying, and morphing are critical enabling technologies for next-generation space systems. Advancing this technological frontier requires innovative approaches to structural design and manufacturing, coupled with a fundamental understanding of their complex mechanical behavior under extreme space environments.
Our center addresses these challenges through integrated research on the design, manufacturing, and mechanics of morphable and multifunctional space structures. Our work spans origami structures, inflatables, ultrathin composite booms, morphogenetic composite structures, and many others—each advancing structural capabilities for adaptive space systems with enhanced performance and functionality.
